Do you know about Reiki?

Reiki is an alternative therapy form, also known as energy healing. It originated in Japan in the 1800’s and is based on the principles of the transfer of energy — from the healer to the client.

Energy healing has been around for centuries and is said to work using the energy fields around our bodies. The energy is passed through the palms of the healer’s hands. Reiki is used to heal a range of different conditions and emotional states.

Small studies have shown that reiki can reduce pain to some extent.

The word ‘Reiki’ actually means ‘mysterious atmosphere or miraculous sign’ combining the Japanese words ‘rei’ (universal) and ‘ki’ (life energy).

Practitioners believe that when there has been physical injury or emotional pain, energy can stagnate in the body and cause energy blocks, which then lead to other illnesses. Energy medicine like reiki aims to help energy flow and remove any blockages similar to how acupuncture or acupressure function. Improving the flow of energy around the body can help one relax, alleviate pain, speed up the healing process and perhaps even reduce symptoms of illness.

Reiki, although being a centuries old practice, was developed in it’s modern form in 1922 by a Japanese Buddhist Monk called Mikao Ushi. The practice gained popularity in the 1940’s, spreading across the United States through Hawaii and then making its way to Europe in the 1980’s.

Reiki sessions do not require any other instruments or accessories besides the practitioner themselves. The healing effect of reiki is delivered by channeling universal energy, also known as Qi. In India, this concept of universal energy is known as Prana. Experts claim that this energy can only be felt by those who tune into it and is not measurable by scientific techniques.

Reiki is slowly regaining popularity around the world as a mode of alternate therapy and is practiced by many experts world over.
